Aspects of course covered by Examination: All Core modules studied 5. 5.1 5.2 5.3Form of Examination: Core Modules: Applied Clinical Nursing: Literature review and recommendations for future practice essay 70%, Unseen examination 30% Problem Solving in Veterinary Physiology: Extended case report 30%, Case logs/reflective summary 10%, Unseen examination 60% Professional Studies: Critical Incident Essay 100% 6.Marking Criteria: Coursework (module assignments, formative and summative assessments) Use RVC Common 17-point Grading Scheme Examinations (Unseen MCQs, EMQs, Short answer papers, OSPEs) The number of marks available for each type of question will be clearly stated on the examination paper. A question left unanswered or deleted by the candidate will score zero. Requirement to Pass Stage 1 In order to pass Stage 1 the student must achieve a pass in each module or 50% as an aggregated average of all Stage 1 (core modules) with not less than 40% in any one module. Resit As First Sit9.Consequences of Failure A candidate whose overall course mark at the first attempt is below 50% will be deemed to have failed the course. A candidate who fails a specific assessment activity or module at the first attempt is permitted to resit the assessment activity/module, but will receive a mark no higher than a bare pass for the re-sit. A candidate who fails an assessment activity at the second attempt is required to relinquish the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in the College Regulations. 10.Classification Average mark of 50-64% - Pass Average mark of 65-69% - Merit Average mark of 70% or more Distinction Average mark <49% - Fail (Average mark counted over 2 years of core (Stage 1) and elective (Stage 2) sections of assessment) 11. Disclosure of Marks Each candidate will receive individual notification of attainment. Any results published will be by candidate number. 12.Absence and Summative in- course assessment Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment. Where a student has an A, and there are three or more in-course assessments in the year, the marks awarded will be the average of the other in-course assessment marks gained by the student. 90% of the marks for the year must be attributed to results of direct assessment i.e. no more than 10% of marks can be attributed to Absent (A). An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment. 13. Late submission of work Reports or Project work submitted after the due deadline will be given a mark of 0 (zero). The only exception being if the student has been given an extension by the module leader for an allowable reason. A second submission date for written work in the case of the Applied Clinical Nursing Essay and the Professional Studies Critical Incident Essay may be set with agreement from the course team however this work can at best be awarded 50%.
