Course: BVetMed2.Year: 23.Applicable to Academic Year: 2009/104.Aspects of course covered by Examination: All subjects taught in Years 1 and 25. 5.1 5.2 5.3Form of Examination Written Papers: Paper 1: Up to 3 hours, up to 150 theory-based multiple choice questions (MCQ) Paper 2: Up to 3 hours of problem solving questions Paper 3: 3 hours, 6 essay questions In course assessments: In course assessments related to subjects taught in the 2nd Year. Practical Tests: OSPVEs, structured orals or spot test related to subjects taught in the 2nd year.6. 6.1 6.2 6.3 6.4 Marking Criteria Essay questions College Common (0-100) Grading Scheme. Multiple Choice Questions and Extended Matching Questions: The number of marks available for each type of question will be clearly stated on the examination paper. A question left unanswered or deleted by the candidate will score zero. The pass mark for the MCQ and EMQ examinations as a whole will be set according to approved and accepted standard setting protocols, normalised and then scaled. OSPVEs and Spot Tests A pass mark will be set for each station. The pass mark for the examination as a whole will be set according to approved and accepted standard setting protocols, including if appropriate a minimum number of stations to be passed, then normalised and scaled. Structured Orals and Short Answer questions A mark is given for each correct and relevant point made. 7. Allocation of Marks and any additional requirements  Written Paper 1 Written Paper 2 Written Paper 3 Practical and Spot Tests In course assessment 1 In course assessment 2 In course assessment 3 First 20 20 20 20 10 5 5 Resit 25 25 25 25There are 10 marks for a in-course summative assessment at the end of Term 1, comprising MCQs and problem-solving questions, to be counted at the first sitting only; and a total of 10 marks for in-course assignments in Professional Studies / Population Medicine and Veterinary Public Health / Integrated Concepts, to be counted at the first sitting only. 8. 8.1 8.2 Requirements to Pass Overall First Sit Following scaling of the marks, an overall mark of 50%, with no mark below 40% in any of components i to iv listed in 7 above. Candidates who do not pass at the first attempt will be required to resit only components i to iv listed in 7 above. Resit Following scaling of the marks, an overall mark of 50%, with no mark below 40% in any of components i to iv.9. 9.1 9.2 Consequences of Failure A candidate who fails at their first attempt is required to take the resit or withdraw from the course. The overall mark obtained at the second attempt will be no greater than 50%. A candidate who fails at their second attempt will be required to withdraw from the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in College Regulations.10. 10.1 10.2 10.3Classification A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an overall average mark of 70% or more, with a mark of at least 65% in each of components i to iv listed in 7 above, including a mark of at least 70% in two of these components, will be awarded a pass with distinction. A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an average mark of 65% or more but who does not meet the criteria for the award of a pass with distinction, will be awarded a pass with merit, provided each of the five components listed in 7 above is passed. A candidate who passes Year 2 but does not proceed with study will be eligible for the award of Diploma of Higher Education. 11. Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number.12. Absence from in course summative assessments Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment. Where a student has an A, and there are three or more in-course assessments in the year, the marks awarded will be the average of the other in-course assessment marks gained by the student. 90% of the marks for the year must be attributed to results of direct assessment i.e. no more than 10% of marks can be attributed to Absent (A) marks. An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment.13.Late submission of work Reports or Project work submitted after the due deadline will be given a mark of zero. The only exception being if the student has been given an extension by the relevant tutor for an allowable reason.14. Requirements to Progress to the next year In addition to passing overall (see 8) a student must have completed at least 12 weeks of AHEMS prior to the start of year 3.
