Multiple Choice Questions and Extended Matching Questions: The number of marks available for each type of question will be clearly stated on the examination paper. A question left unanswered or deleted by the candidate will score zero. The pass mark for the MCQ and EMQ examinations as a whole will be set according to approved and accepted standard setting protocols, normalised and then scaled. OSPVEs and Spot Tests A pass mark will be set for each station. The pass mark for the examination as a whole will be set according to approved and accepted standard setting protocols, including if appropriate a minimum number of stations to be passed, then normalised and scaled. Structured Orals and Short Answer questions A mark is given for each correct and relevant point made.  7. Allocation of Marks and any additional requirements Each of the items listed in 5 above has to be passed individually. For the purposes of determining the classification and so honours points for the year the allocation of marks will be: Written Paper: 80% Research Report 1: 20% 8. 8.1 8.2 Requirements to Pass Overall and Progress to Year 4 First Sit Following scaling of the marks, a mark of 50% for the written paper And A pass in the Research Report Resit As first sit9. 9.1 9.2 9.3 9.4 9.5Consequences of Failure Candidates who do not pass at the first attempt will be required to resit the item failed. (i.e Written Paper, Research Report, OSPVE) Failure of the OSPVE at the first attempt will not prevent progress to year 4. Candidates who do not pass at the first attempt will progress to year 4 and be required to pass the OSPVE at the next available session during year 4 A candidate who fails at their first attempt is required to take the resit or withdraw from the course. The overall mark obtained at the second attempt will be no greater than 50% for the item taken at resit. A candidate who fails the Research Report at the first attempt will be required to resubmit the report by the given deadline. A candidate who fails at their second attempt will be required to withdraw from the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in College Regulations.10. 10.1 10.2 10.3 Classification and Award A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an overall average mark of 70% or more from the aggregate weighted marks of the Written Paper and Research Report 1, will be awarded a pass with distinction. A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an average mark of 65% -69% from the aggregate weighted marks of the Written Paper and Research Report 1 will be awarded a pass with merit. A candidate who passes Year 3 will be eligible to transfer to the BSc Pre Clinical Veterinary Sciences. 11. Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number.12. Absence from in course summative assessments Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment. Where a student has an A, and there are three or more in-course assessments in the year, the marks awarded will be the average of the other in-course assessment marks gained by the student. 90% of the marks for the year must be attributed to results of direct assessment i.e. no more than 10% of marks can be attributed to Absent (A) marks. An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment.13.Late submission of work Reports or Project work submitted after the due deadline will be given a mark no greater than a bare pass. The only exception being if the student has been given an extension by the relevant tutor for an allowable reason.14. Requirements to Progress to the next year In addition to passing overall (see 8) a student must have completed at least 10 weeks of EMS prior to the start of year 4.
