A component passed at the second attempt may only be awarded a maximum mark of 50%. 8Requirements to Pass Part 1 of the BSc Veterinary Nursing Overall First Sit To have achieved an aggregated average of at least 50% from the written papers Components 1&2) And An aggregated average of at least 50% from the assignments and projects (Components 3&4) And To have passed the practicals (OSPVEs) (Component 5) Resit Students will be required to resit any failed component assessments. 9. 9.1. 9.2. 9.3. 9.4 Requirements to proceed To proceed to part 1 of the BSc Veterinary Nursing To have achieved an aggregated average of at least 40% from the written papers (Component 1) taken in the Spring of 2010 To have achieved an aggregated average of at least 40% from the assignments and projects (Component 3) taken in the Spring / Summer of 2010 To proceed to part 2 of the BSc Veterinary Nursing To have met the requirements to Pass Part 1 of the BSc overall (above) and be able to complete and have verified the NVQ2 or VRQ2 parts of the course before the start of Part 2 of the BSc. To proceed to Part 2 of the BSc in Small Animal Welfare and Care To obtain an average mark for the year of 40-49% and have passed the OSPVE practical. To proceed to Part 2 of the FdSc in Veterinary Nursing To have achieved the requirements to proceed to Part 1 FdSc in Veterinary Nursing To have achieved an aggregated average of at least 50% from the written papers And An aggregated average of at least 50% from the case studies alone (from the assignments and projects component) And To have passed the practicals (OSPVEs) And To be able to complete and have verified the NVQ2 or VRQ2 parts of the course before the start of Part 2 of the FdSc.10.Consequences of Failure or Failure to Complete A candidate who achieves 45% or less in any component of the Spring Examination will be required to resit that component (all or part). The mark obtained at the second (resit) attempt will be no greater than 50% and will be carried forward to the overall mark. A candidate who achieves between 46 and 49% at the Spring Examination may opt to resit the failed component (all or part). The mark obtained at the second (resit) attempt will be no greater than 50% and will be carried forward to the overall mark. A candidate who fails a component after the Spring and Winter Examinations will be required to resit that component (all or part) excluding any items that have already been taken for the second time. A candidate who fails to satisfy the requirements to proceed to Part 1 BSc or Part 2 BSc after two attempts is required to relinquish the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in the College Regulations A candidate who is unable to proceed to Part 2 of the BSc after resit has a right of appeal as described in the College Regulations even if s/he meets the requirements to proceed to FdSc. A candidate who fails to complete the NVQ2 or VRQ2 assessments by the stated deadline (i.e. the commencement of Part 2) will normally be required to interrupt his/her studies in order to complete these assessments. A candidate who does not complete the studies within in a period of one year of the original deadline will be required to relinquish study for the award of BSc Veterinary Nursing. S/he may continue to study for/claim an award in Small Animal Welfare and Care.11.Award and Classification Part 1 will contribute 10% to the overall degree classification A student who is eligible to proceed to Part 2 of the BSc in Small Animal Welfare and Care, but does not proceed with further study may claim the award of Certificate in Higher Education in Small Animal Welfare and Care.12. Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number.13.Absence and Summative in- course assessment Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment. Where a student has an A, and there are three or more in-course assessments in the year, the marks awarded will be the average of the other in-course assessment marks gained by the student. 90% of the marks for the year must be attributed to results of direct assessment i.e. no more than 10% of marks can be attributed to Absent (A) marks. An allowable absence is one that is for a significant unforeseeable event such as illness. Any other foreseeable absence will only be considered allowable if agreed by APRICOT and this will only apply in very strictly limited circumstances. A student absent for any other reason will be awarded 0 (zero) for the assessment.14.Late submission of work Reports or Project work submitted after the due deadline will be given a mark of 0 (zero). Late submissions related to Continuation of Nursing Practice and Professional Development will receive a maximum mark of 52%.
