If you love city life there is every opportunity to immerse yourself whilst at the RVC. Centrally located, our Camden Campus allows you to explore the exciting global capital that in depth. London is a city that caters to everyone.
Beyond our college doors, you’ll find vibrant nightlife, inspiring cityscapes, natural habitats, a tasty food culture, museums, theatre, film and concerts. London has a proud history of inclusivity and multiculturalism. Round-the-year celebrations highlight its diversity with events such as the Notting Hill Carnival, Chinese New Year or the annual Pride parade. The capital is the centre of student life in the UK and there are many options for those on a low budget. Student discounts are available and lots of museums and events are free.
London is one of the greenest capital cities in the world! There are eight Royal Parks open to the public in London, five in central London, which served originally as hunting grounds. The numerous heaths and commons are less formal and big enough to get lost in. In addition, there is a liberal sprinkling of smaller public garden squares such as the beautiful Russell Square in Bloomsbury.
Camden is situated just to the North of the West End and Central London, and is a bustling, vibrant and intriguing area of London. Just as New York has Greenwich Village and Paris has the Left Bank, Camden is London’s bohemian hub. Camden has a history of famous alternative music, outlandish fashion and free-spiritedness. It is unique in its atmosphere and is characterised by the ever-evolving high street, the colourful markets, the beautiful canal side and lock, and a wide range of music venues.
Bloomsbury, London’s academic district, is a charming area packed full of garden squares. It is home to the Bloomsbury Colleges (which include the RVC) and University College London (UCL). The University of London Union (ULU) building is located here and provides great facilities and events for all University of London students.
Camden Campus
Situated between Camden Town and Bloomsbury, our Camden campus really does allow easy access to all areas of London.
Camden campus is within easy walking distance of King’s Cross, St Pancras International and Euston train stations, as well as Mornington Crescent and Camden Town Underground stations and Camden Road Overground station. Situated between Camden Town and Bloomsbury, it really does allow easy access to all areas of London.
The main campus building provides a variety of study environments, social spaces and great facilities, including teaching and research laboratories, a Learning Resources Centre, and an extensive anatomy museum and dissection room. The Learning Resources Centres at both the Camden and Hawkshead campuses offer high quality open access computers and laptops and a variety of different study spaces for group work or private study. Both libraries are well stocked with books on science and medicine from both a human and a veterinary perspective. Additionally, the RVC provides onsite access to almost 3,000 electronic journals and databases and some offsite via the Athens portal.
The Camden campus is also home to the London Bioscience and Innovation Centre (LBIC), which offers students the opportunity to see what can be done with their degree post-graduation, and the Beaumont Sainsbury Animals’ Hospital, where some of the 4th and 5th year BVetMed students can be found on clinical rotation.
